One of the perks of being a wedding photographer is that you meet lots of people - event organisers, dress shops, designers, hair and make up artists, etc. And occasionally we get together and we recreate a wedding day, the way we see it. Why do we do that?
Firstly, we all benefit from shared publicity from the styled shoots; it is fun, a lovely experience to improvise and create with like minded people; and the main reason - exchange of experience. We have all been to hundreds of wedding, met hundreds of brides and grooms, styled hundreds of hairs and done many make ups, designed cakes, arranged venues and shot multiple photos of the bride, groom, family and friends. And the combined experience is priceless.
The styled shoots are sessions to share the experience with the engaged couple who already feel the pressure of organising their wedding and are lost within a waterfall of multiple choices and options. I see the styled shoots as shortcuts full of ideas that will set you thinking in the right direction and a faster route of adding or eliminating choices. I think of them as drafts of weddings that can be experienced and re-lived.
Recently I had the pleasure to be invited to shoot with the lovely Odette from Brides by Solo in Newmarket - a wedding dress shop that has delivered consistently for the last 75 years. The venue? - the super-stylish Tamburlaine Cambridge. Model and make up - the gorgeous Holly from HNB Cosmetics. Hairstyling by the talented Charli Smith Hair & Make Up and photography by my modest persona. The dresses are by Catherine Dean and Maggie Sottero sold exclusively at Brides by Solo Newmarket. I hope you enjoy the result of this get-together.
